Hidden Track: New Year’s Eve Report - Umphrey’s McGee

In our fifth installment of New Year’s Eve Report this week, we’re taking a look at the Umphrey’s McGee 3-night run that started with one show at Chicago’s Vic Theater and continued with two nights at The Aragon Ballroom.

It was “throwback night” at The Vic on the 29th as UM played a venue a little too small for their current draw and all the merchandise onsale reflected an older “look” that was also mirrored in the show poster. It also looked like the music might be from an earlier era as the first hour featured songs that were all at least seven years old, including the fan-favorite rarity Front Porch which clocked in at twenty minutes. But UM made it clear that this would not be a night of exclusively old material when they closed the first set with The Floor, a tune debuted in 2007. Read more at Hiddentrack

Gone Lyrics Transcribed

Phish "Gone"

Running from yourself
Come back from the dead
All those sleepless nights
All that pain
I'm sorry you're gone
But you're gone.

When hope is nearly lost
You'll finally do what's right
Stop bleeding from your head anymore
The devil has you down
So turn around
And rise into the light

Running from yourself
(Spinning got you here)
Come back from the dead
(And there's no sun left in your eyes)
All those sleepless nights
All that pain
(You looked right through me)
I'm sorry you're gone
But you're gone
(Left alone sleeping)

When hope is nearly lost
(Gave with all your strength)
You'll finally do what's right
(Spoke with your eyes closed)
Stop bleeding from your head anymore
(I saw you dreaming like a child)
The devil has you down
(Cross the river with your friends)
So turn around
And rise into the light.

Driving down the interstate on December 28th was anything but normal for the local residents of Miami. With tye-dye shirts popping out of car windows and jam music blasting, excitement truly filled the Florida air as phans prepared themselves “to run like antelopes out of control” for phour days of Phish New Years in Miami.

As the music arose that Monday, and the crazy non-stop light show began, the audience quickly sprung from their seats and began dancing without a care in the world. Read on
