HiddenTrack: "Booking Phish 101" Telluride & Wrigley
By Scott Bernstein
For instance, let’s take the proposed Phish shows that AEG Live and Telluride Bluegrass are attempting to hold in Telluride on August 9th and 10th. We first learned about the possibility of these shows through a terse tweet from the Telluride News on February 17. Later that evening, Telluride radio station KOTO broadcast a report that featured an interview with Telluride Jazz director Paul Machado and Telluride Bluegrass Festival director Craig Ferguson in which the pair laid out all of the approvals that would need to be obtained before an official offer could be made to the band. That interview gave us all a behind-the-scenes look at the hoops promoters must jump through to hold Phish concerts in atypical venues.

ColumbusDispatch.com: "Umphrey's McGee" Whether jam or thrash, band commits to change
It's part of what Cinninger describes as a postmodern ideology. Umphrey's McGee, he said, is a post-jam band.
"The Dead used folk and jazz," Cinninger said, "and Phish used Zappa mentality and jazz and rock.
"We were kind of the post-children of using grunge a bit more: a little bit more ethereal rock, a little bit more progressive voice, a bit more metal. That's kind of where we are in 2010."
But the thrash stuff isn't necessarily what the band will play Friday when it performs in the Newport Music Hall.
Since releasing its first proper compact disc, Local Band Does O.K. (2002), Umphrey's McGee has defined itself as a sonic shape-shifter.
"Everything's very organic," Cinninger said.

RollingStone.com: Phish’s Mike Gordon Primes Fans for Solo Disc With Double Live LP
After wrapping up a tour with Phish in December, Mike Gordon is taking time to do things his own way for the next few months. On Friday, the Phish bassist will head back on the road with his five-piece band for an eight-date club tour, which kicks off with a sold-out show in Troy, New York. To get fans pumped for the shows, Gordon has just released a live recording from his 2009 tour. The two-disc set (which is also available at LivePhish.com) captures Gordon and his band at an October gig in Buffalo, New York, and features pitch-perfect covers of Radiohead’s “15 Step” and the Talking Heads’ “Cities,” along with Phish tunes like “Meat.” For the upcoming tour, expect plenty of spirited improvisation and some surprise covers. “I like to experience musical moments that aren’t planned,” Gordon tells Rolling Stone.
