Hidden Track: Phish- A Newcomer’s Take on 2010

Phish has an intimidatingly large library of songs and performances, and it’s easy to fall into the trap of letting other, more experienced fans do the thinking. But the reason the band been so successful is that each fan may form a deeply personal relationship with the music while simultaneously riding the same wavelength as everyone else in the venue. The trick is to cut out all the noise and leave yourself with just the music. Older fans, be grateful that your early experiences with Phish were limited to shows, tapes, and in-person interactions.

Anniston Star: Phishy phireworks

“It’s been a great mix of them jamming and playing songs that the fans have never heard them play,” said Scott Bernstein, creator of YEMblog and Hidden Track, two Internet blogs dedicated to Phish and live music coverage. “The music is phenomenal, and the shows all have their own distinct personalities,” he said. “You never know what to expect with this band.”

That sense of surprise combined with Phish’s history of commemorating holidays with special performances and crowd interaction have fans who plan to attend to the shows Saturday and Sunday in Alpharetta, Ga., clamoring for the holiday weekend to start already.
