But for more than two hours Friday, Chicago-based Umphrey’s — Joel Cummins (keys), Brendan Bayliss (guitar, vocals), Jake Cinninger (guitar, synthesizers, vocals), Andy Farag (percussion), Kris Myers (drums, vocals), Ryan Stasik (bass) — released two sets of seamlessly funky, grooving, pulsing, riffing musical mayhem onto their sold-out audience of 1,750 — an obviously younger crowd than usually frequents the venue.

Not all were prepared. A few older couples, toting their picnic baskets and lugging their chairs, made their way up the aisles after giving the band the old college try.
