Jambands.com: Umphrey’s McGee’s Bar Mitzvah, Ryan Stasik is "On Time" with the Disco Biscuits

  
Umphrey’s McGee celebrated the 13th anniversary of its first show—which took place at South Bend, IN’s Bridget McGuire’s Filling Station—on January 21. Keyboardist Joel Cummins marked the occasion by wishing everyone “Happy Bar Mitzvah” during the set (a coming of age event that takes place when a Jewish male turns 13). The group also nodded to its surroundings by singing its song “In the Kitchen” entirely in Spanish.

Bob Weir and Mickey Hart Reunite in Park City

Yesterday Bob Weir performed a rare solo acoustic set at the Sundance Film Festival. Weir appeared at the ASCAP cafĂ© in Park City, UT in conjunction with the opening of the film The Music Never Stopped (which is an adaptation of Oliver Sacks’ essay which describes his work with a Deadhead suffering from a brain ailment). Weir began, quite fitting with “Music Never Stopped” and then offered versions of “Me & My Uncle,” “Desolation Row,” “KC Moan,” “Victim or the Crime,” “Easy To Slip” and “Loose Lucy.” At this point Mickey Hart stepped out to join his longtime Grateful Dead band mate on hand drums (as despite the fact that Hart is not part of Weir’s Furthur project, their close ties certainly remain).
