After originally busting out and sporadically playing this Danny Whitten original [Neil Young & Crazy Horse] on his '99 solo tour, Trey decided to debut it with Phish on a rainy Chicago evening in a shit hole arena on the outer limits of Chicago[2000 Fall Tour]. Come On Baby, Let's Go Downtown was revived with TAB in 2008 [played twice in three days, but since forgotten], but has yet to resurface with Phish since being played a second time on October 5th, 2000. Whether the original songs ties to Heroin are the reason for Trey's motivation to cover this song is up for speculation, but it does make a helluva of an opener and I welcome its return.

This exclusive track from the Dead's upcoming "Europe '72" box set was made available via dead.net today. Enjoy.
This is the first-ever live performance of He's Gone by the Grateful Dead, although you couldn't tell by the confidence of this version. You'll notice that the "Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange..." bridge is absent here, as it had not yet been incorporated into the song. It was added to the song later in the tour.
