Weekly Wrap-up with Tela
So in the whirlwind that is tour announcements and ticket sales, we’ve got a ton of Phish news for you this week. As focused as we are on the upcoming New Years run, the boys are still in the throws of their side projects and current tours. We got word from Hidden Track in September that Trey would be working with producer Peter Katis, who’s done albums for the National, Interpol, Sigur Ros, The Get Up Kids, and more. Adding to his variety this season is TAB; confirmation came from the fine ladies of the group, Jennifer Hartswick and Natalie Cressman, via twitter (@jhartswick and @nataliecressman, in case you were wondering).
Speaking of tickets and NYE, some pretty cool things are happening in the battle between fan and scalper. Viral videos of a Music Choice representative (apparently) calling out a scalper on the phone have been circulating, and the kid looks like he’s having a great time with it, but in a more grassroots attempt to notify the band, Dave Ginsberg (@youenjoyme) has been retweeting scalpers attempts to sell PTBM tickets to @Phish or #phish... or #scumoftheearth. As a policy of the band, people who do this get their tickets revoked without refund. So the band responded, saying they were going to get right on it and to keep the mentions coming. If you see anything, anywhere, email bettyfrost@phish.com and it will be duly noted.
In anticipation for the Mike Gordon shows starting this weekend, Cactus and the band decided to release a show from Asheville, NC at The Orange Peel from March of this year. You can download the show for free through LivePhish downloads or pick up tickets for any of the five shows they’re playing on this quick, northeast tour. Also in gearing up for the shows, Gordo did an interview with Brian B. from HT where they get into everything from new material to new projects and, of course, a little Phish talk too. Can’t wait for the second part of this interview? Check out what else Mike’s been talking about at Sea Coast Online or New Hampshire Online.
And finally, if the boys are back, the catchphrase is back- get your YEMSG here! Thanks to the classic YEM from 12/4/2009, Phanart and Jiggs Lot have come together to create the YEMSG merch line, and since 2009, we’ve graduated from stickers, to pins, and now, tee-shirts! No two prints are the same, so get yours before 11/23 and it comes with free shipping, a YEMSG sticker and a NYEMSG sticker.
In Umph news, they’re finally back in Chicago for a hometown celebration this coming Thanksgiving, and if you can be there, you should consider going VIP. Get one of the special packages, and have special access to Saturdays soundcheck. It’s going to be a very intimate performance, with some Q&A and other treats, and with special guests Cornmeal and the Chicago Mass Choir, it is not an event to be missed.
Lastly, in the Dead world, Furthur is well into their Fall run by now, having made sporadic stops across the northeast, hitting Madison Square Garden last night, and onward to Atlantic City and westbound for the rest of the month. Tickets are still on sale for all dates, including the first 2 of the the 3-night New Years Run in San Francisco.
